I’ve written about things you should never buy at Walmart, but now I want to share 8 things I ALWAYS buy from Walmart. Now, these aren’t the only things I buy from there but it’s the 8 things I will not buy anywhere except at Walmart.
Things I ALWAYS buy from Walmart
I ALWAYS buy all three of the kids play clothes from Walmart. I am at the store at least 2 or 3 times a week, so I always keep an eye on their clearance kids rack. The other day I bought Little miss the cutest shirt for 1 buck! Right after each holiday make sure you hit the rack for next year’s shirt! Most of the time you can get them for under $2!
My favorite brand is their Garanimals brand clothes. Most of the time the shirts and shorts range from $2.88- 4.88 and they are adorable. Perfect for the kiddos to play and I don’t have to worry about them destroying them.
I get a lot of questions about the quality of Walmarts clothes. I have never had any issues with the quality and the price is low enough that I’m not worried about them getting ruined from the mud pies that are surely going to be made in the backyard.
We don’t have a big office supply store near us, so Walmart is always the go-to place for office supplies. If you do happen to live near a big supply store make sure you price match because unless the supply store is having a sale you’re probably still better off going to Walmart price wise.
Just FYI they also sell kids school supplies (name brand) cheaper than the discount stores during the year, but if you stock up when it’s time for the back to school sales you’ll save a pretty penny.
I buy cereal from Walmart regardless of brand. I have compared prices and they are ALWAYS cheaper for name brand cereals, but if you’re not tied to a brand check out their bagged cereal. The bagged cereal tastes the same, is cheaper, and is in a bag. Bagged cereal is GENIUS, why bigger brands don’t do it is mind-boggling.
Having a baby doesn’t have to break the bank. A lot of stuff for babies is cheaper and let’s face it more convenient at Walmart. We really liked their bottles when the kids were little. If you’re in a crunch and need diapers Walmart is usually the cheapest store to pick them up if you can’t order online.

Over the counter
When it comes to over the counter meds I always like to check Walmart before going to the drug store. Usually, I can find it for a few bucks cheaper and the same brand. Over the past year, we have gone through a lot of baby Tylenol and it’s always $2 cheaper in the store.
I recently found out Walmart has an awesome prescription plan for your prescription drugs! Click here to read more about it and other secrets you can use while shopping at Walmart.
When it comes to name brand cleaners Walmart is usually cheaper. A lot of time the better deal looks like it would be at the discount store but if you compare the size you’re getting usually you’ll find Walmarts package is bigger, cheaper, or about the same price.
One example is baby wipes I bought the other day. The package looked the same but it was actually a smaller pack. 50 wipes for $1 or 98 wipes for $1.25
I compared the price of a huge bottle of Tide (we wash a lot of laundry around here) between Walmart and a discount store and it was $3 cheaper than the discount store. The same bottle!
They sell big boxes of snacks for a lot less than buying them at discount stores. They sell cookies by the cases which make it easier to store and it’s cheaper. One big box lasts us about a week and it costs $6 to buy the same amount of snacks at the other store I would need to buy 3 packs at 3$ each. That’s a saving of $3 which on our budget goes a long way.
Are you a soda drinker? If so compare prices Walmart’s price for a name brand soda (Pepsi) here is $1 but at the discount store, they’re $1.45. .45 when you’re on a tight budget over time really is a big difference.
Your must buy list will look a little different than mine, but you have to remember I live in a VERY small town. Unless I want to drive 45 minutes away, so when you go out to do your shopping make sure you’re keeping your Price book updated with what you paid and what store it was at.
