When I wrote the post four blogging myths, I said that blogging wasn’t always fun. I meant it, but what do you do when your blog becomes more of a burden than something you enjoy doing? My mother used to tell me “find your passion and the money will follow.” I had my life all mapped out. I was going to go to college, Get my nursing license, and then moving to start my life.
Funny thing is none of it happened. I went college for nursing but quickly realized that nursing wasn’t what I wanted to do. I then had my son and realized I wanted to be my own boss. I didn’t want to work for someone I wanted to work for myself. That’s how Money Savvy Momma came to be. Money Savvy Momma is my passion, and this is what I want to do.
I say all that to say even though blogging isn’t always fun it’s my passion. I want to help other moms find a balance in their checkbook, life, and business.
If you’re stuck and feel like blogging is a burden take a step back. And ask yourself..
Are you doing too much?
Are you trying to do too much? We are human, and we can’t do everything on our own. Make a to-do list and prioritize it.
What I like to do is make a list of things I need to do on the blog this month. I take that list and prioritize it and schedule each throughout the month.
You can’t let blogging take over your life. You have to have a time set aside for your life and then blogging. It’s easy to let blogging take over and seem like it’s all you think about, but as moms, we have so much to do that a schedule is imperative.
Are you passionate?
They are times we all get a blogging slump, but, in general, are you passionate about what you’re blogging about? If you’re blogging about cooking, do you enjoy it? Is whatever you’re blogging about something you would do even if you weren’t blogging?
Ask yourself, if you were not getting paid anything would you still want to write about that topic? If not, you need to find your passion. Even if you think NO ONE wants to read about it, I assure you there are people out there that will.
Just look around the web. There are blogs about everything from cleaning to talk about collecting dolls. There are readers out there for every niche.
Do you feel like you are in jail?
Are there times you want to write about a topic, but it doesn’t fit your blog? Whatever go for it! Don’t be trapped by your niche. Blog about what you want to. That’s the beauty of blogging there are no rules. We can do whatever we want to do. Your blog is your blog, and you’re able to write about anything you want. There is nothing you HAVE to do in this world but live and die.
I have heard it a thousand times you have to be on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and every other social media platform. Remember this isn’t jail and what works for one blogger might not work for you. Find your readers and be there. Don’t try to be everywhere that you don’t need to be.
If you weren’t worried about your number and all that jazz how often would you post? What would you write about? What would your blog look like? If you notice all those questions are about YOU. Whether you consider blogging a business or a hobby, remember it has to work for your life. Don’t let blogging become a burden. Your blog can change with you. After all, it’s YOUR blog.
