The biggest to do is back to school clothes. How much do you spend? How do you stretch your budget? It doesn’t have to be so much stress, well not for staying on a budget anyway. Here are a few tips to help get you through all the stress.
Take inventory of what your kids already have. There’s no sense in wasting money on clothing items or accessories they already have. Make your list and stick to it.
Buy discount gift cards. If you use a site like Gift Card Granny or Abc Gift cards you can save upwards of 20%. Since your just getting a discount on the gift card (same as cash) you can use coupons, in-store deals, or clearance to give you an even bigger saving.
Don’t buy a whole new wardrobe now. Wait. Kids grow fast and those 10 pairs of pants you buy now just because they’re on “sale” more than likely won’t fit in a few months. Buy a few outfits now and put the rest of the money up for the upcoming seasons. When the kiddos need new clothes, use the money you saved to buy what they need. You will thank yourself later I promise.
Visit thrift shops. I know doesn’t sound glamorous right? Well, a lot of time you can find name brand items either like new or with the tags still on them. If you don’t find what you like a local thrift store check out Thread Up. They sell high-quality clothes at a great price.
Not much of a sale
Beware of “sales”. Some store has “sales” that makes it look like you’re saving a lot more money but in reality, your spending money that’s not in your budget. If you see a sale that says save $25 off of a purchase of $75 or $50 off of a purchase of $150, of course, it looks like you save more buying $150 but in reality, it’s the same percentage! It’s just a way to get you to spend what you haven’t planned for.
Take advantage of no sales tax. If your state has no sales tax back to school days take full advantage. Buy a discount gift card, find a sale, and save the tax! You get more bang for your buck. If you save 20% on your gift card, 10% in store, and then 7% from tax(varies) that’s a saving of 37%!
Buy a few outfits and wait for the blow out sales in September. People are done school shopping and the stores need to get the stuff out of the store for the upcoming holidays.
Google is your friend
If you shop online Google the store for a discount code! I do it all the time! Chances are 9 out of 10 you’re going to find one. Retail Me Not is also a good place to look.
If you have clothes in the closet that aren’t going to be back to school clothes keep them. If they still fit let your kids save them to play in after school to help keep the clothes you just spent a small fortune on new.
Cash is king
Don’t take your bank card. Only take cash, so when the kiddos start batting those pretty eyelashes or pouting you can’t give in. If you only take what you can spend there is no wiggle room. Sorry, kiddos.
