When I was in my younger teens . I was going through a very hard time in my life. I was failing miserable in school, my home life wasn’t great, and I was in a bad relationship. I had come to a point in my life where I was going down the wrong road. I was making the wrong choices. It seemed like everyone in my life had given up on me. My grandmother that raised me had just passed and I didn’t know where I was going to go. I was sent to a special program to try to catch up in school. I hated it. Little did I know my life would be changed forever.
I met a woman named Mrs.Nichols. She was a substitute teacher for the school, I was in. She changed my life. For the first time in my life, I felt like I could talk someone and they would listen. I grew very close to her over the 2 years I was at that school.
She helped me realize that if I wanted a better life I had to work for it. She will never know how much she really changed my life. She will never know what talking to her and her listening meant to me. She will never know how her believing in me meant to me. She will never know how much just hearing her say “you can do this” changed my life. They all seem so small but it’s what I needed at that time of my life.
I received my high school diploma, I went to college, I am a mom to 3 beautiful kids, and I have a husband that truly loves me. I will never forget her telling me ” I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy, I’m telling you it will be worth it”.
Had I not met her I don’t know where I would be right now in my life. I know I would have never finished school on time. I would have never gone to college. I wouldn’t be writing this right now, so to my wing woman, thank you. Thank you for caring. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for helping me when no one else was there.
